Bonjour / Hello from Togo

Language: French

Togo boasts gorgeous, palm-fringed beaches and lush, forested hills. It is also a country of extreme poverty where children face challenges in the quest for education and well-being. Compassion-assisted children experience these realities daily. But at the Compassion center, there is hope.

COMPASSION IN TOGO

When do children visit the Compassion center?

  • Children age 3 to 8 years old go to the center for 8 hours on Saturdays.
  • Students age 9 and older attend 6 hours every Saturday.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT IN TOGO

Issue: Education is not prioritized in Togo. While many children attend primary school, only about 41% of children are enrolled in secondary school. Only 60% of teens are literate, and recently 59% of students failed the government final exam for their grade level.

Response: Staff ensure that every registered student is able to attend school. They also provide tutoring and teach parents about the value of education. Compassion Togo is celebrating that 85% of registered children are thriving in school!

Prayer Point: Pray for the children of Togo — that they will be motivated to stay in school, excel in their studies and dream big for their futures.
