Day of Your Event

The big day is finally here! Go through this list on the day of to make sure everything is good to go. If your church is meeting virtually, be sure to reach out to us at [email protected] so we can customize your event to meet your specific needs.

Wear your Compassion T-shirt.

Don’t forget to wear your Compassion T-shirt (mailed in your Event Kit) so your church members can easily spot you after your presentation.

Arrive early.

Arriving early will help ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. If you have time, take a few minutes to pray before anyone arrives. Ask the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of the members of your congregation to sponsor a child.

Test your equipment.

If you’re showing a video or a PowerPoint, make sure to test your presentation to ensure that everything is working.

Set up your sponsorship table.

  • Set up your table in a highly trafficked area in your church.
  • Use a tablecloth — either the one we sent you or one from home. We recommend using white or blue.
  • Display the child packets.
  • Be familiar with the child packets you have available — the age, country and gender of each child.
  • Place pens on the table. People will want to fill out the sponsorship forms right then and there.

Give your presentation.

This is the big moment — you’ll do great! Speak from your heart. Tell your story. Show the video. Invite your church into child sponsorship. Point them to your table. God will use you in big ways!

Help people sign up.

  • Head straight to your table after the service.
  • Answer questions about the sign-up process, as well as common questions people have about sponsorship.
  • When someone selects the child they want to sponsor, have them fill out the form attached to the child packet, tear it off and leave it with you. They can take the child packet with them!
  • If someone would like to sponsor a child of a specific age, gender or country, send them home with a “Why Compassion?” brochure. The brochure is also helpful for people who are on the fence about sponsorship.
  • Review the FAQs so that you can answer any questions people might have to the best of your ability.

A man in Texas decided to host his fifth Compassion Sunday event last year. His event had to be completely online, but it ended up being his most successful Compassion Sunday to date!
